Snow

This past winter 2010-2011 was a big one for snow! Feburary in New York they had 36.9 inches, brakeing the last record, set in Janurary 1925, of 27.4 inches. Pick a state and tell me how much snow they had this year and if they broke any records.

  1. South Carolina's snow record is 24 inches on Feb. 10-11, 1973. Highest amount of snow South Carolina got this year is 9 inches.

  2. Washington State reported an average of 500 inchces of snow this year. However, in the year of 1998-1999 they had recorded 1,140 inches of snow that throughout that whole year.

  3. On March 20, 2008 Maine had it's highest record at 15 feet of snow. This is the highest record ever since 1939!

  4. This year in Pennsylvania, they broke a record for accumulated snowfall. During the winter of 1995, they got 65.5 inches of snow, but this year with all of the snowstorms, they ended up getting 70.3 inches!

  5. In Elizabeth, New Jersey the snow record was set. The total amount of snow was 33 inches on February 14, 1899. The snow from this winter got very close to the record with 27 inches of snow in Gloucester County.

  6. On March 6, 1962, Virginia had a record 24 hour snowfall of 33.0 in. This year they had a record of 7.6 in. in Annandale County.

  7. During this winter Boston, MA got 59 inches of snow. The record has not been broken yet. Yet a fun fact about Boston would be that on this very day in 1982 10.8 inches of snow fell.

  8. Iowa, on average gets 32.4 inches of snow during the winter. The statewide average total this year was 29.4 inches. During 1961-62 Iowa had a average snowfall of 59 inches. However, they did not break any records this year.

  9. Mt. baker in seattle broke its snowfall record last year recording 96 inces in a 5 day span with an average snowfall throughout those 5 days
    of 19.2 inches of snow per day.

  10. Michigan had a pretty normal amount of snow for what they're used to, although it was still quite a bit. They probably got to a foot or so while I was there and maybe a little bit more. They are still getting snow even now so they have probably had more frequent snow rather then masses of snow.

  12. Minot, in North Dakota had a total of 75.4 inches of snowfall, being only about 5 inches away from its last record set 41 years ago.
